Once upon a time there lived a large man. He was a giant. He did great
things. He moved hills, drew the river-beds with his thumb. These
rivers were filled with water, and tundra flowers burst into blossom.
When he worked hard he felt tired and lay down on the soft bedding
of reindeer moss; he went on talking and singing, and smoked his pipe.
His interlocutors had peculiar characters, and were keen to catch
his attention and favour. And he loved all of them and called them
his beloved toys: Raven is wise, he gives good advice; doe-hare is
a permanent housewife; goose is young and pretty, and catches his
eye with her beauty; reindeer is singing a song of love. This naive
fellow pokes his muzzle into salty places, looking for dainties. Thats
how they live together, a giant and his toys.
