"Kukinyaku"
(firsttriptychpicture)
part of private collection.
A man-raven is a famous personage in Eskimo folklore. A lot of extraordinary
and mysterious things happen to him. He is mostly a caricature personage.
Kukinyaku can be foolish and ridiculous, and is often offended and
cheated. People laugh at their own vices and failures through this
personage.
The legend says that Kukinyaku was looking for a wife for a long time.
None of the girls wanted to be his bride. They laughed at him and
asked him to go away. But his feathers and untypical behaviour charmed
the youngest and most beautiful girl. They fell in love with each
other (middle picture) and their future promised a cloudless family
life. But no one can avoid everyday life with its human troubles and
worries, insults and forgiveness (first and last pitures).
